The Ottoman Empire was established in 1299 by Osman I, son of one of the Ghazi principality leader, Ertugrul. The Empire has been named after its founder, Osman I. The Ottoman Empire rule lasted for around six centuries. The sultans of this Empire had conquered many territories and expanded the Ottoman Empire.

1302

The Byzantine army was defeated near Nicaea. This victory helped the Ottomans in expanding the boundary of their territory close to that of Byzantine Empire.

1321

Mundanya, the port of Bursa was captured. Later Bursa was made the capital of the Ottoman Empire.

1331

Nicaea was invaded and added to the Ottoman territory.

1337

Nicomedia was conquered and was made a part of the Ottoman territory.

1365-1369

Byzantine army was defeated at the Battle of Adrianople. Adrianople was a stronghold of the Byzantine Empire

1387

City of Thessaloniki was captured from the Venetians.

1413-1421

Parts of Albania, Candaroglu and Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia were added to the Ottoman territory.

1430

Large areas in Balkan region were captured.

1444-1446

Anatolian states of Aydin, Germiyan, Menteshe and Teke were conquered

1453

Constantinople was captured and was made the Ottoman capital.

1458

Northern part of Greece was annexed.

1512-1520

Egypt, Syria, Palestine, holy cities of Meca and Medina were captured

1520-1566

Belgrade, Baghdad, Hungary, large area of Middle East, Algeria, East Morocco, Tripolitania, Tunisia and Nice were added to the Ottoman territory.

Anatolian states of Aydin, Germiyan, Menteshe and Teke were conquered.
